Ever wanted to colour an egg but not sure how? There are so many ways...
One failsafe method is the humble red cabbage. This natural pigment is a perfect dye, staining your eggs from pale, to deep blue depending on length of immersion. Method: Chop about half a cabbage and then cover with water. Bring to the boil and simmer for about half an hour. Strain and then add 2 tablespoons of vinegar and 2 tablespoons of salt. leave to cool and then put your eggs (raw or boiled) into a jar (white eggshells are best) and cover with the cabbage juice. Leave for at least an hour. The longer it is, the deeper the colour will be. Remove and leave to dry on kitchen paper. TIp: if you smear a finger-tip of butter here and there on the egg, this will cause a marbling effect. For other colours, experiment with red onion skins, turmeric, blackberries, blueberry powder, and other strong coloured foods to find new variations. Happy decorating!
